Water Temp and the Spawn

There are many factors that affect the spawn – moon phase, length of days, amount and type of cover, but probably the most critical is water temperature. I have seen bass spawn in waters as cold as 52 degrees and as warm as 75 degrees. But without a doubt, the majority of the fish start spawning when the water temperature hits 60-62 degrees. As a fisherman, you can go about just fishing and not worrying about the water temperature, knowing the bass are typically shallow this year, but I like to know what phase they are in. It helps with knowing what patterns I might want to fish and what baits I might want to throw.
