Rattling

Trying to call deer to me is probably my very favorite way to hunt. There are some keys to it though. One of them is that you have to do it at the right time. When I talk about time, I mean the time of day when deer are most active, and the time of year – in or near the rut. First, the deer have to be up and moving to be able to rattle one in. You won’t rattle one in during the middle of the day unless they are already on their feet. I have rattled hundreds of bucks and believe unless they are on their feet, they are not coming. And unless they are with a doe, bucks will come to a rattle anytime during the rut. It’s heart stopping action, fun and definitely worth a try.
