I am not a finesse fisherman. But one thing I have discovered in the finesse fishing realm is that drop shot can be very effective. Here’s how I like to approach the drop shot. I prefer a Cabela’s XML Drop Shot rod with a Cabela’s Verano spinning reel with braided line, usually around 10 – 15 pound test with about a 6 foot fluorocarbon leader. For the hook, I like an Owner Mosquito Hook and prefer to rig the bait in the nose. For the bait, I like a Strike King Half Shell with an Owner drop shot weight, either 3/16 or ¼ oz. Drop shot is a technique where you don’t move very quickly, but when fish are ganged up or finicky it can produce a lot of fish.
