Sam Rayburn

When you think of Texas bass fishing, one name that comes to mind very quickly is Sam Rayburn Reservoir in East Texas. It is a giant lake that has always been an incredible largemouth fishery. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to fish it many times. As happens in most lakes, Rayburn seems to go through cycles. Sometimes it is unbelievable. Other times, it is just OK. Right now, we seem to be in one of those cycles when it is really coming into its own again. There was a lot of high water most of this year, and the fishery just seems to be very healthy. I would say that Toledo Bend is still the top lake in Texas, but Sam Rayburn, just a few miles west, is a very close second.
